Check-ups during your pregnancy
Pregnant
This is an exciting and special time in your life, full of new adventures and challenges. Maybe you even have to get used to the idea? That's not crazy at all. Bee Midwives Lelystad we are excited to guide you through this wonderful journey, from the very first signs of your pregnancy to the welcome of your precious child. We not only offer professional care, but also a warm, personal approach. Below you will find information about the frequency of check-ups during your pregnancy.
7 weeks – Extra early ultrasound (15 minutes)
We understand that you would like to know early in your pregnancy whether your baby is doing well. That's why we offer one as standard early ultrasound on at 7 weeks. If you ever have one miscarriage or are currently experiencing bleeding, the ultrasound will be reimbursed by your health insurer. Isn't this the case? Then we will reimburse the early ultrasound for you from our midwifery practice.
10 weeks – Ultrasound to determine due date (15 minutes)
Shortly after the early ultrasound you will have a second ultrasound. This ultrasound checks whether the baby is doing well and determines the final due date.
10 weeks – Intake with the midwife (60 minutes)
During the intake you will visit one of the midwives and you will be asked questions about your health and you will receive information about guidance during the pregnancy. It is useful if you come together with your partner, but it is not a problem if this does not work. The questions about your (in-law) family and partner can also be asked at a later time.
13 weeks – If desired: medical ultrasound (60 minutes)
If you wish, you can have an ultrasound scan made during this period to check the physical development of the baby.
14 weeks – Midwife check (20 minutes)
Check-up with the midwife: oa arrange maternity care is discussed.
15 weeks – If desired: gender determination ultrasound (30 minutes)
From 15 weeks you can have a gender determination ultrasound to check whether you are pregnant with a boy or girl! This is of course not mandatory.
18-20 weeks: Midwife check (20 minutes)
You will have a standard check-up with the midwife: measuring blood pressure, external examination and also listening to the heartbeat.
20 weeks: If desired: a medical ultrasound (30 minutes)
You can have an ultrasound scan at 20 weeks to check your baby's development.
24 weeks: Midwife check (20 minutes)
At 24 weeks we do the standard checks and provide you with information about which signs you can recognize if you develop high blood pressure during your pregnancy. This way you know exactly when to call us.
27 weeks: Midwife check (20 minutes)
At 27 weeks we do the standard checks and provide you with information about the baby's movement pattern and when this might be too little. This way you know exactly when to call us. We also tell you that you can now take a blood test to determine your iron levels and when rhesus are negative to see if there are antibodies in your blood. Sometimes it is necessary to do a sugar test during pregnancy, this is between 24-28 weeks and can be combined with a blood test for your iron levels. You can have both tests carried out at 27 weeks, which we will remind you of.
30 weeks: Midwife check (20 minutes)
At 30 weeks we do the standard checks and you will receive the blood test results and, if indicated (if you are rhesus D negative and the baby is rhesus D positive), an injection. If your iron is too low, we can prescribe iron medications.
30 weeks: Growth ultrasound (30 minutes)
If this is medically necessary, you will have the first growth ultrasound at 30 weeks.
32 weeks: Growth ultrasound
If this is medically necessary, you will have the second growth ultrasound at 32 weeks.
34-35 weeks: Midwife check + birth plan and childbirth information (30 minutes)
If you are 34 or 35 weeks pregnant, we will do the standard checks and discuss when you know that labor has started and what you need to arrange in advance. If you have made a birth plan, we can go through it together during this conversation to ensure that your wishes are clear to everyone.
35 weeks: Position ultrasound (15 minutes)
To ensure that the baby is lying with its head down and not accidentally with its buttocks, you will have an ultrasound scan for the position at 35 weeks. When necessary, the growth of the baby are measured.
36-37 weeks: Check with midwife (20 minutes)
From 36 weeks onwards you will come to our consultation hours every week and we will carry out standard check-ups. This way you get to know all the midwives even better in the last part before the birth and we can build a bond of trust.
37 weeks: Midwife check (20 minutes)
We do the standard checks and extra check whether the baby has descended properly.
38 weeks: Midwife check (20 minutes)
We do the standard checks and extra check whether the baby has descended properly.
39 weeks: Midwife check (20 minutes)
We do the standard checks and extra check whether the baby has descended properly.
40 weeks: Midwife check (30 minutes)
We do the standard checks, feel the descent and give you information about the next 2 weeks. For example, we will tell you that you have the option of stripping, if labor has not yet started spontaneously. This gives you the best chance of a spontaneous birth and we try to avoid induction of labor in the hospital.
41 weeks: Midwife check (20 minutes)
We do the standard check, feel the descent and if you would like to be stripped we can do that during this check. You will also meet the gynecologist in the hospital this week, in case you have not yet given birth at 42 weeks. It is the last check-up at our midwifery practice: the next time you see us will be during the maternity week when the baby is born!
Echoes
As standard, you will be offered the following ultrasound scans during pregnancy: an early ultrasound scan at 7 weeks, a... term echo at 10 weeks to determine the duration of your pregnancy and two medical ultrasounds at 13 and 20 weeks (not mandatory). Although an ultrasound is not performed at every appointment, there are situations when it is done, for example if the baby's growth appears to be unusual.
Medical ultrasound at 13 and 20 weeks
You can have a medical ultrasound made around the 13th and 20th week. This extensive ultrasound examines whether any major physical abnormalities are visible in the baby. It is of course not an obligation.
Fun ultrasound
In addition to the medical ultrasounds, fun ultrasounds are also available. With a fun ultrasound you can 'cheat' at any time. So even if you choose not to have a medical ultrasound, you can always go for a fun ultrasound (at your own expense).
