Follow-up check

A careful ending

Just like during pregnancy, the follow-up check is an important medical examination that takes place approximately six weeks after delivery. During this check-up, various medical tests will be carried out and your experiences and any concerns will be discussed in detail.

Medical evaluations

Pregnancy has a significant impact on your body. For example, your muscles loosen to accommodate the growing baby, and hormonal changes can also lead to mental fluctuations. During the follow-up check-up, various medical evaluations are performed and your mental well-being is inquired about. These medical checks include:

  1. Blood pressure measurement: This is a crucial indicator of your overall health. If your blood pressure appears to be too high, we will refer you to a doctor.

  2. Iron content analysis: Particularly important if you have lost a lot of blood during childbirth or have taken iron supplements.

  3. Abdominal muscle control: This is necessary before you can start exercising again, especially if you have used your rectus abdominal muscles. If you still feel a gap between your abdominal muscles, we do not recommend doing abdominal exercises.

  4. Urine and feces: We ask about your experiences with retaining urine and feces, as this sometimes does not function optimally after childbirth.

  5. Stitches: If you have had stitches and they have not dissolved on their own, we can remove them during the follow-up.

Emotional and physical experiences

During the follow-up check we also discuss how you experienced the pregnancy, delivery and postpartum period. This is a safe space to share any concerns or issues you may have encountered.

The importance of the follow-up check

The follow-up is more than just a medical check-up; it is a moment to reflect on the emotional and physical changes you have gone through. It offers the opportunity to ask questions and receive advice about the new phase in your life: motherhood.

Birth control

During the follow-up check we will also provide you with information about: birth control. It is recommended not to become pregnant for at least one year after giving birth, so that your body has sufficient time to recover. In our practice we offer contraceptive options, including the insertion of IUDs.
