What is the Quality Register of Midwives?

The Quality Register of Midwives is a register where midwives can register voluntarily. Although this registration is not mandatory, we see it as an essential part of our professional development and commitment to quality care. By registering in this register, we demonstrate that we are actively working to improve and keep our knowledge and skills up to date. We undertake this obligation for the large number of further training courses that we have to follow, because we fully support this.

The added value of a registration in the Quality Register

• Continuous professional development: By being registered, we commit ourselves to regular further training and professionalization. This ensures that our knowledge is always up to date and that we stay informed of the latest developments in our field.
• Quality guarantee: It gives you, as expectant parents, the certainty that we as midwives meet the highest standards within our professional practice.

Our obligations as registered midwives

• Further training: We are obliged to regularly participate in further training courses and workshops. This allows us to refine our skills and broaden our knowledge.
• Reflection and evaluation: Participation in the quality register also requires that we regularly evaluate our practice and reflect on our services.

The Quality Register vs. BIG registration

It is important to emphasize that the Quality Register of Midwives is separate from the BIG registration. Every midwife in the Netherlands receives a BIG registration upon being sworn in as a midwife and must then be sufficiently practicing as a midwife. The BIG registration is a legal requirement and guarantees that a midwife meets the basic requirements of competence. The Quality Register goes one step further by emphasizing continuous professional development.
