What should you arrange during pregnancy?

Bee Midwives Lelystad we understand that pregnancy is an exciting and sometimes overwhelming journey. That's why we've prepared this summary to help you plan the important steps during this special period. Read on to discover what steps you can take and when they best fit in your journey to parenthood.

1. Nutritional supplements (weeks 4-8)

It is important to start taking nutritional supplements such as folic acid and other prescribed vitamins. This contributes to the healthy development of your baby and helps prevent certain birth defects. You can read more about this at: Nutritional advice and lifestyle

2. Official documents

Whether you plan to travel or need documentation for work, a pregnancy certificate is very important. You will receive this statement from us and it is useful to always have it with you.

3. Comfortable clothing (weeks 12-16)

Around this period you will notice that your regular clothes start to fit a bit tighter. It's a good time to invest in comfortable maternity clothes for greater freedom of movement and comfort.

4. Health insurance

It is crucial to check your health insurance for coverage for prenatal care, childbirth and maternity care. If your current policy does not provide sufficient coverage, consider additional insurance.

5. Maternity care (before week 16)

Maternity care is invaluable for postpartum care and support. Register with a maternity care agency early to be assured of the necessary support. 

6. Childcare (week 24 or earlier)

If you plan to return to work after giving birth, it is wise to: childcare to be arranged early. Waiting lists can sometimes be long, so starting early is wise.

7. Legal matters

The arranging of recognition and parental authority is important for unmarried parents. Make an appointment at the town hall to arrange these legal matters.

8. Preparation with a pregnancy course (around Week 24)

A pregnancy course is an excellent way to prepare for the coming period. Register around week 24 to have enough time for the course.

9. Furnishing the baby room and baby set (week 28-32)

Start by decorating the baby's room and purchasing the necessary baby equipment. This is an exciting phase where you can really prepare for the arrival of your little one.

10. Maternity leave arrangement (week 28-32)

11. Birth plan (around week 30)

Consider creating a birth plan to clarify your wishes and expectations for the birth. This can be discussed with us or in the hospital.

12. Preparation for home (before week 36)

Make sure you have all the necessities at home before week 36, such as bed raisers. This is important for both the birth and the maternity week.

13. Make sure your hospital bag is ready (from week 36)

Pack a hospital bag with all the essential items you will need for a possible hospital stay. Do this well before the due date.

14. Preparing for breastfeeding

If you have decided to breastfeeding it is useful to rent a breast pump in advance. Pumping can help to initiate breastfeeding in the early stages.
