Prevent infections during your pregnancy

The advice below is for the prevention of infectious diseases during pregnancy. Infectious diseases can be dangerous for you or your baby.

Before pregnancy

  1. Did you not have measles and rubella before your pregnancy? Then get vaccinated to protect your baby.
  2. Have yourself tested for STDs by your GP, as these can cause problems during your pregnancy.
  3. Make an appointment with your company doctor to see if your work is safe during pregnancy. Adjusted work may be necessary

Can lead to birth defects in your child.

How can you prevent infection in pregnancy

Wash fruits and vegetables under running water before eating them.

Heat meat, fish and shellfish to at least 70°C. Do not eat raw meats or liver sausage. Do not eat raw eggs, meat or fish, smoked fish from the supermarket, cheeses made from raw milk (labeled 'au lait cru' on the packaging), mold cheeses or pre-packed meal salads from the supermarket. Don't eat sushi or herring.

Use gloves when working in the garden and avoid contact with sand from the sandbox. Do not clean the litter box yourself, the feces contain bacteria.
